Jobs and careers
Working in Canada comes down to three practical questions: where jobs are posted, whether your credentials are recognised in your trade or profession, and which paperwork you need before the first paycheque.
Where to search
Start with the official national job board, then use it to identify the employers and sectors that actually hire for your role:
Credentials and regulated professions
Regulated professions are supervised by provinces and territories, not by the federal government, so recognition usually starts with the provincial regulator for your field. The official federal page below explains the process and the documents involved:
Before the first paycheque
- A Social Insurance Number is required to work and be paid: apply through the official ESDC service.
- An employment contract and provincial employment standards decide hours, overtime and termination rules.
Official sources
We do not publish salary figures without an official source and a reference date, and we will not copy job postings: guides link to the source instead.
